Court Day

Well, we were up early, got out the Sunday best and literally spit polished our boots. You wouldn't believe the mud here. Igor arrived at 9:15 and we were off to pick up an extra translator, the Judge wouldn't let Natasha translate for us. We arrived at the court house at 10:00 and waited for the others to get there, Social worker and orphanage director. The judge called each of us into her chambers and asked a couple of questions. We all then went to the court room and waited some more. Finally the Judge and two jurers, court reporter and some other guy came in. At this point Randy starts recalling some big court scene he saw in a movie with Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise and I begin to get giddy ( my automatic response when I get nervous). And just like on TV she said "All Rise".

From that point things seemed to get fairly long. The judge began to ask questions such as "who is the head of the household" to which Randy replied "I'm not sure why don't you ask Debbie. WE all laughed except the Judge who was waiting for a reply to which Randy mumbled " we are partners". That seemed to satisfy her. The questions continued to all of us for about 2 hours. Questions like " will you make sure that this child maintains her Russian language and how will you do that" and Why are you not adopting her 18 year old brother ( he's living on the street and no one can find him). Will she have her own bedroom at your house? Do you own your house and do you have a document here that will prove it? All of these questions had been previously answered by our lawyer and translator. I guess she wanted to get our response and reaction. She also mentioned several times that it might be a good idea for Nastya to be there.

After the Judge and the Jurors had asked all the questions they wanted too, the Judge decided that she wanted to see Nastya and that court would be adjourned untill 2pm tomorrow.

We know this story is beginning to read like a bad suspense novel.

In all seriousness though Natasha believes that because Nastya is the first one in this city to be adopted internationally, the Judge is afraid to make any mistakes and she going a "bit over the top" with legalities. I am choosing to believe her and of course praying that all will go smooth tomorrow. We and our facilitators have done everything possible so we will have to Trust the One who knows the outcome already.
Here is a little poem that a lady of great faith gave to Randy one day and he always recalls it in diccifult times.

Trust Him when dark days assail thee
Trust Him when thy faith is small
Trust Him when to simply Trust Him
Is the hardest thing of all

We will post tomorrow as soon as we get the judgsement from court.
Love Debbie

I was up early waiting to hear the good news. But it is not bad news either and that is something to smile about."No" decisions take no time at all.So we will just take it that the answer will be yes,and she just has to make sure that she is making the right decision.Have a blessed day as you wait, and we will all keep praying.Love Bea and George

Wow, sounds like this judge is really a stickler for details!
One thing we offered to our judge and Orphange director is, that they will get a copy of the yearly update (with pictures) that we are required to make to the Ukrainian authorities. They perked up at that, but declined it as unnessesary. I think they apreciated the fact that we had nothing to hide, and that it was offered to them though. Keep it in mind.

Hope all is well.

Like many others, my first action of the day was to check your blog for the news we've all been praying for. As I read through my heart quickened and my pulse raced with anticipation - I will look at it this way; one more day to pray and one more day to deepen our trust.

When I read the little poem that Randy likes so much, I recognized it right away. It's actually the fifth verse of a hymn entitled "Trust Him When They Wants Are Many" by Lucy A. Bennett (1850-1927)

Let me add a couple of more applicable verses you can pray through tonight . . .

v. 1 Trust Him when thy wants are many; Trust Him when thy frineds are few; And the time of swift temptation Is the time to trust Him too!

v. 6 Trust Him! He is ever faithful; Trust Him - for His will is best; Trust Him - for the heart of Jesus Is the only place of rest.

Rest well my brother and sister, Jesus is at the wheel!

With love and support,
Laura

Hey Guys,
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. Ecc 3:1
It doesn't matter if it is a few more hours or a few more minutes. In God's economy time doesn't matter. I admire you so much for your faithfulness and obedience to the fullness of God. Our job here is to remain in His presence and let Him figure out the purpose for everything. Still praying and expecting to see all three of you soon.
'til He shouts

Couldn't wait to come home from work today to read the blog. Also all the girls at work were anxious to find out the outcome of your court. You are all certainly part of everyones daily lives at this moment. When i get home from work the first thing i do is check the computer for the daily update. Of course you can't blame the judge for being extra cautious in her decision. However,if she only knew what kind of parents this little girl would have you would all be on your way to Canada next week. Until tomorrow we will certainly hold all of you in our thoughts & prayers.

Hi Randy & Debbie ,
Got your blog from Kim & was just catching up on the latest news today .Kim showed me the pictures you sent of Nastya - a cute little Ukrainian girl.
Hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow - takes ALOT OF PATIENCE to accomplish things in Ukraine !!
Hope you get to Odessa - alot of changes and different kids at First Steps but some of the ones we saw in 2003 are at Hope House. Say hi to Sergei and all if you go.
You've gone thru many obstacles to get this far so keep praying and trusting .
As Winston Churchill said " Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm "And I know that you are very enthusiastic about adopting this precious little child !!
God bless

Well - you know that old saying - if at first you don't succeed - might not be totally applicable to your case - but God hasn't gotten you this far on your journey for nothing - you two are sooo deserving, patient, kind and I have all the faith in the world that one day I will click on your bog and see the words - "we're on our way home - with our little girl." or something similar. My thoughts are certainly with you each and every day and I have added you to our prayer list at church - My Sunday School class asked me for an update last week - we have a foster child from overseas and they are very interested to know that someone is trying to bring a little deserving child to Canada for a "new" life.
Things haven't changed here much - still snowing - kids home again today - they might as well class this as March Break and keep them home again tomorrow - I know the weather has been hard on us lately - mainly cause we got spoiled up till the last two weeks or so. Things are good at Tims, though we do miss Randy's presence - Randy you sure have had a few "experiences" with money lately - I bet the laughter you are sharing with Nastya is music to both your ears. I feel as if I am getting to know her just by reading your blogs - I'm trying to think of something upbeat and funny or encouraging to add, but my mind is as snowy as the weather outside - so - guess nothing this time - GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS, STAY STRONG (stay away from manholes) AND KEEP YOUR HEADS UP. Will post again soon - got your blog at home now and have the next three, did I mention three, days off from work so will likely check it every day.
TAKE CARE

I know that you do trust Him, and even if you didn't He will still be with you all the way. Godspeed to all.
