Valentines day is a new thing here, but there is evidence that it is popular with some. On our way here to the cafe we passed lots of couples walking along and many girls were carrying flowers and red heart balloons. They have a day in March which is called "Woman's Day" and that is a big holiday here, when women are celebrated.
Ukranians love fresh flowers and you can buy them everywhere. I don't know where they all come from but there is a huge variety.
We came in the cafe this morning and Nastya quickly ordered up 3 computers for an hour. I guess she didn't want to share one with dad. She is playing a road racing game on hers. Look out boys, she looks like she might be good competition.
We are planning on going to Odessa tomorrow night on the overnight train to visit Sergi and Kerry and families. We will be there for the weekend to catch up on all the work they are doing at Hope House, First Step Center and the new house they have for girls that age out of orhanages. Randy is especially looking forward to seeing the kids that he met back in 2003.
We will post an update before we leave to let you know how court goes. Hopefully the Judge will say yes to our petition to adopt Nastya and give us full custody until the ten day wait is up. We will try to post some pictures when we get to Odessa.
Have a great day everyone and don't forget your sweethearts.
Love, Debbie

Hey Guys,
Happy Valentine's Day...looks like it's going to be a nasty one here. Still praying for you 3 especially for Thursday and having confidence that God will be in the house with you then and you'll walk out of there a family. I am encouraged by your faith and obedience to God, seeking Him always, and providing a future for one of His lambs. Can't wait to meet your daughter when you can finally bring her "home". Have a great day.
'til He shouts

Happy Valentines Day!!! We woke to a big snow storm - school cancelled and an hour of shovelling the driveway for Dave to get out to work. It's been snowing steadily now for 16 hours (nor-easter; 50 km winds) and is still snowing heavily and expected to all day. They say 30-50 cm depending on where you are in Southern Ontario. We are right beside Lake Ontario and it was predicted yesterday that we wouldn't get as much. This morning they are saying now it's Lake effect snow and we're going to get hit hard. (Look out Atlantic Canada - this is a big one!) They'll be calling this one the Valentines Day storm of '07 (Any Yarmouthians remember the Ground Hog Day storm of '72?) So if you're still enjoying "spring-like temperatures" in Ukraine; get your fill of them! (Sorry fellow bloggers for the indepth weather report - it's a family thing that our Dad passed on - you understand right Randy?)
So your first stop after court tomorrow (and praising and thanking God) is the Internet Cafe right? We will all be going crazy for the news when this is all finally "official".
Until then, we'll all be in prayer and thought of you all,
Laura
XOXO

Hi Randy and Debbie.
Just a note to let you know that we've been following your journey. I admire your strength, patience, faith, etc....the list is endless! You are truly wonderful people doing a most wonderful thing for a very special little girl. All the girls at work are thinking of you. Your "blog" is printed out and put on the lunch table where we all take our turn reading it. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
I pray that Thursday goes good.
Love,
Cindy
Dear Debbie & Randy,
We will all be anxiously waiting to hear the news on Thursday. Hope and pray that all goes well for everyone.

Tomorrow is the day and we will be praying for a positive day for all three of you. God is using you in a strong way there so keep the faith. Have a great weekend in Odessa. Love Anna & Dick
I anxiously check this blog about 10 times a day, although I have not posted yet, and felt it was time that I waded in with a few of my own comments.
First of all, we loved the photos and cherish the day that we can meet your new little Nastya.
Wow, do you ever have a load of faithful friends who seem to be on their knees for you guys all the time. We all know that that is what will make it happen. We are learning about Nehemiah right now and he opted to pray for many days when faced with his problems. That is all your supporters can do right now but we know that there is nothing more powerful.
It is 10:30 pm EST and I just spent a 1/2 hour in the hot tub amidst about 3 feet of fresh snow. It was so quiet and peaceful and I sat there and just thought alot about your commitment to completion and devotion to what you have started. I'm sure the experience is very different than you had anticipated. I know that I will go to bed tonight and when we get up, we will be able to know your outcome. We are on our knees in Oakville and are praying for you and your little one for a successful outcome. It is in His hands and we know that He has a plan for your family. Perhaps when you pass through in a week or two we can have a winter hot tub party and celebrate the family's newest member.
Now on a few other notes..the Habs were pasted by the Devils tonight (5-2). They are right on the cut line 2 pts ahead of the Leafs(shootout loss to NYI last night) and lastly...can you bring Laura home a pair of those candy appple, above the knee, pointy boots?
Bro in Law,
David
We are all hoping for the best when you go to court today, we're sure the judge will realize what a great gift you will be for each other and grant you custody! Love & prayers from Cook's.
